Restaurant Review: Heart Stoppers Sports Grill, Delray Beach-FL

I've heard a lot about the 'new' Heart Stoppers Sports Grill in Delray Beach, FL.  It's a new eatery that serves some 'killer' food...and their specialty food of choice?  Hamburgers!

The restaurant is located in a strip mall, just east of I-95 on Linton (there is a Target in the strip mall).  Upon entering the place...you see the 'real' reason for the name.  The entire place is set to look like a Dr's office.  There are IV bags filled with colored water all around...wheelchairs...some old cardio hospital electronic equipment...and lots more.  It's quite interesting and there is a lot to look at.  There are also some large screen LCD TV's hung up to catch the game...the news...or whatever else might be on.  The staff run around in skimpy 'nurse' outfits complete with fishnet stockings....the servers were quite friendly and were always there when you needed something.

(Most seats at the tables are regular chairs...however this special table as 2 wheelchairs.  We didn't sit there.)

The menu has 'Artery Cloggers' (Appetizers) that include Battered Onion Rings, ICU (Intense Chips Unit - Nachos), Angus Sliders..just to name a few.  They also have some wings (boned...or boneless - Surgically Removed on premise daily).  Then there is the 'Death by Burger' section of the menu.  I was surprised to see that right under the Burger section...there was a note:  Weigh in!  If you weigh over 350 lbs...you eat free!  Interesting promotion huh?  Well, neither of us are nowhere near that mark.  Oh...and they have a 3 pound burger challenge.  If you beat the existing record...you meal is free, your next meal is free and you get your picture on the wall.  Sounded very 'Man vs. Food' huh?  They also had some other sandwiches like Rib Eye and cheese, Italian or Polish Sausage, Chicken and some others.

We stuck to burgers.  They have a 1/4 pounder, a 1/2 pounder....a Tripple A (1/2 lb with cheese stuffed in the middle), a 1 pounder and a 2 pounder.  All burgers come with seasoned fries (of for $1 more...you can get parmesan cheese and garlic).  We both went for the 1/4 pounders.  Jeff got the regular fries...I went for the upgrade with parma and garlic.  You have lots of toppings to add on for free...maybe 35 or so...some as strange as peanut butter and jelly.  I went with onion rings, garlic, lettuce, tomato.  Jeff went with banana peppers, garlic, lettuce, tomato, pickles, A-1 sauce.

The burgers came out medium...just as ordered and were actually very good.  All of the toppings were very fresh and you got a lot.  The bun was really good too...it held up to the toppings and was very fresh.  The meat was good quality and nicely seasoned.  The fries were fresh and I loved the garlic and parm toppings, but after a few...I wanted just regular fries.  Kind of overkill.

The prices are quite reasonable as well.  For the 2 burgers, fries and 2 sodas (served in HUGE glasses)...we spent around $15 plus tip.  Not bad at all!  You definitely get plenty for your money there.  We both say this is a must-stop if you are a burger lover.  Maybe stick to the 1/4 pounder and plan on doing some exercise after you indulge.  Heck...the decor alone should motivate you.
